Press Release

Kuala Lumpur, 01 August 2015 – Universal Fitness & Leisure Sdn Bhd (UFL) announced today that a public awareness campaign will be launched to combat counterfeit Deuter products that has plagued the local market recently. UFL, who are the exclusive agency holders of the popular German backpack brand, came to this decision after running an unofficial investigation and concluded that fake backpacks are being peddled into the local outdoor market and sold to unassuming consumers as authentic Deuter products. “Our main objective here is to drive awareness and educate the consumer on the benefits of owning an authentic Deuter product as opposed to a counterfeit one,” said Dato Radha Krishnan, UFL Managing Director. “We also would like to express our utmost regret and apologize to the public for allowing these unscrupulous retailers to mislead the consumer into buying fake Deuter products,” he added. The Deuter “Be Genuine” Campaign will officially launch on the 15 of August nationwide. One of the key objectives of the campaign is to draw the attention of the consumer to identify tell signs on how to distinguish a genuine Deuter product from a counterfeit one and to highlight where one can purchase genuine Deuter products locally. UFL will be working closely with its network of retailers nationwide to boost consumer confidence and enhance customer loyalty by any means necessary. UFL will also release a list of authorized Deuter retailers on its website and social media platforms in accordance with this campaign. Consumers are also strongly advised to seek out authorized Deuter retailers as purchasing a counterfeit product is just as illegal by Malaysian law as selling one. “We would like to stress that consumers purchase genuine Deuter products from authorized retailers because if caught purchasing counterfeit products one can be implicated by law. Look out for the Deuter “BE GENUINE” Authorized Dealer sticker when purchasing a Deuter product,” said Dato Radha. UFL also announced that a national exchange sales program will be launched in tandem with the campaign where consumers who previously purchased counterfeit Deuter products will be able to exchange and buy an authentic Deuter product at an attractive price. Details of the program will be released soon. For more info on Universal Fitness & Leisure, its products and events, please visit Like our FB Page or call us at +603 6275 9544.
Leatherman Launches Tread™ Wearable Multi-Tool to Consumers The Tread bracelet brings true utility to ‘wearables’ Portland, OR—June 17, 2015— Following a highly successful industry launch, Leatherman Tool Group debuts the Tread wearable multi-tool to consumers in June of 2015. Tread is a travel-friendly and stylish collection of interchangeable links, each designed to offer a variety of tools that allows the user to solve everyday problems or respond to critical situations. “It’s thrilling to see the product catch on with a diverse new fan base,” said Leatherman President and Tread Creator Ben Rivera. “The initial excitement and industry support and acceptance we’ve received thus far has been out of this world. It’s clear that there’s a deep desire to have a tool that is useful, looks good, and can be taken anywhere.” The Leatherman Tread is crafted of high strength, corrosion resistant 17-4 stainless steel links that include two to three functional tools each, making a total of 29 usable features like box wrenches and screwdrivers available at a moment’s notice. Created to be fully customizable with slotted fasteners, Tread users can rearrange links, add new ones, or adjust for wrist size to ¼”. Even the clasp is functional with a bottle opener, ¼” socket drive, and #2 square drive. Other link tools include a cutting hook, hex drives, screwdrivers, box wrenches, and a carbide glass breaker. The Tread is available in stainless steel and DLC (diamond like coating) black finish. MSRP will be $150.00 and $200.00 USD, respectively. “The idea behind Tread originated on a trip to Disneyland with my family,” said Rivera. “I was stopped at the gate by security for carrying what they thought was a knife, when what they had actually seen was my Leatherman Skeletool. I was unwilling to give it up, so they made me take it all the way back to my hotel room. I knew there had to be another way to carry my tools with me that would be accepted by security.” Looking forward, Leatherman is working to create accessory links for niche activities such as cycling, action sports, and tech repair. In addition, adapter links are being created to attach other makers’ watch faces to the Tread, including most popular brands of analog, digital and smart watches. New accessories are anticipated to hit the market in early 2016. For more information on the Tread, please visit
Runners are notorious for not wanting to spend time on gym-based strength work, core stability exercises and stretching, preferring instead to “just run.” Runners are also notorious for getting injured. This is no coincidence, according to Steve Powell, Director of Education at Performance Health Systems, who advocates running-specific exercises and functional flexibility to keep muscles and joints in peak running form. “Runners will be pleased to hear the secret to avoiding injury and recovering quickly between runs doesn’t lie in spending hours lifting weights or lying on gym mats easing out every muscle,” says Powell. “Just 10 to 12 minutes, two or three times a week, on Power Plate whole body vibration equipment will do the trick.” The science behind whole body vibration Whole body vibration training speeds up recovery and regeneration, and a few specific exercises performed on the vibrating platform of Power Plate® can work wonders. This is due to the rapid, harmonic vibration of the Power Plate platform which facilitates a number of positive responses within the body including increased blood flow and circulation. The precision of the vibration wave and the rapid movement of the Power Plate platform initiates and forces the body’s natural reflexes to engage. This reflexive stabilization response is more commonly described as proprioception. When targeted exercises are performed on the vibrating Power Plate, there is a rapid increase in blood flow and nutrient supply to the key muscles and connective tissue involved in running. In addition to enhancing flexibility and range of movement, Power Plate has been scientifically shown to provide active recovery by stimulating a circulatory response that removes the metabolic by-products of exercise, drives more oxygen into the muscle tissues and aids lymphatic drainage. Suitable for all runners From speed-focused 5K runners to steadily-paced marathoners, runners are prime candidates for stiff muscles and sore joints. Powell has devised specific exercises and stretches focused on the key muscles and joint complexes related to running, particularly the foot and ankle, hips and upper back. These movements can be performed on the ground but will be significantly enhanced when performed on a vibrating Power Plate. Each exercise has been selected to quickly and efficiently condition and prepare the body to cope effectively with the demands of running, enhance performance and reduce injury risk. The complete Power Plate workout for runners can be downloaded at Following are some sample exercises. For best results, Powell recommends warming up with a short walk on a treadmill and/or stretching any problem areas. Included with his workout are specific stretches for hip flexors, calves, quads and piriformis, all designed to be performed on Power Plate, as needed. Forward lunge hold with overhead reach (for hip mobility) – Begin in a high lunge position with the ball of rear foot resting on Power Plate and arms extended overhead. Engage the glutes and push the hips forward slightly while driving hands rhythmically overhead, returning to the start position each time. Repeat for 30 to 45 seconds. Change leg positions and complete another set. Standing dynamic calf with side-to-side knee driver (for foot, ankle and calf mobility) – Standing on Power Plate and holding the handles for support, lift one leg up and out to the side, with the hip and knee bent to 90 degrees. Keeping the back leg straight, drop the heel slightly to feel a stretch in the calf. Bring the bent leg across your body to the other side, then back. Repeat rhythmically in a comfortable range for 30 to 45 seconds, then switch leg positions and complete another set. Step over with single arm overhead hand driver (for balance and lateral mobility/ stability) – Stand on Power Plate with left foot lifted slightly, right knee soft and right arm extended straight overhead. Bring left leg across to the right, leaning upper body to the left. Return to the start and repeat for 30 to 45 seconds, then complete another set on the other side. Single leg balance with forward/side foot reaches (for balance and core stability) – Stand on right foot, with knee bent slightly and left leg lifted, hands on hips. Reach left foot to the front, pause briefly and return to starting position, then perform reach to the side in the same way. Continue, alternating front/side for 30 to 45 seconds, then perform another set with the right leg. NORTHBROOK, Ill. (May 14, 2014) – At least six independent studies published within the past 10 years have documented the link between whole body vibration and lowered blood pressure. The most recent, published by Florida State University researchers in the European Journal of Applied Physiology, involved stroke survivors with paralyzed lower limbs using Power Plate® advanced whole body vibration equipment. Although paralysis prohibited the study subjects from doing anything more than a standard squat on the Power Plate®, they still received the benefit of lower blood pressure. “This latest study dramatically reinforces what researchers have believed for a decade,” says John Jaquish, Ph.D., chief science and technology officer for Performance Health Systems, maker of Power Plate. “Whole body vibration has blood pressure lowering benefits that transcend those of conventional exercise. “Cardiovascular exercise strengthens the heart, allowing it to pump more blood through the arteries. But that’s only a partial solution,” Jaquish asserts. “The true culprit in hypertension, and increased risk of heart attack and stroke, is atherosclerosis (hardening of the arteries). And conventional exercise has never been shown to affect arterial stiffness to a significant degree.” Whole body vibration, conversely, has been demonstrated to reduce hardening of the arteries in study after study, among populations ranging from men in their mid-twenties to postmenopausal women. And in each study, the subjects’ blood pressure was lowered significantly. High blood pressure, or hypertension, afflicts 68 million Americans age 18 and older, nearly 30 percent of the population. By age 60, that percentage increases to 65 percent. Hypertension is a direct consequence of atherosclerosis, and the primary risk factor for heart attack and stroke, the two leading causes of death in the developed world. As arteries lose their flexibility, they do not move as they should to accommodate blood flow. This raises blood pressure and makes the heart work harder, increasing the likelihood an individual will have a life-threatening cardiac incident. Until a decade ago, most research revolved around pharmaceutical interventions for decreasing stiffness of arteries and lowering blood pressure. In 2005, however, researchers in Japan found that reflexive muscular engagement through whole body vibration exercise significantly increased blood flow and oxygenation. Three years later, a different group of Japanese researchers found using Power Plate® acutely decreased arterial stiffness among males in their mid-twenties. And in 2011, Arturo Figueroa, M.D., Ph.D., an associate professor at Florida State University, showed a decrease in arterial stiffness in young obese/overweight females using Power Plate®, a group that differed from previous study groups in that they are often not able to engage in conventional exercise. Dr. Figueroa demonstrated similar results among postmenopausal women in a study published earlier this year in the Journal of Human Hypertension. Long recognized as the world leader in whole body vibration platforms, Power Plate® uses a patented tri-planar vibrating motion to maximize reflexive muscle engagement and increase safety. The vibrating Power Plate® platform triggers 30 to 50 reflexive muscle contractions per second throughout the user’s body. As the body works to regain stability, multiple muscle fibers become engaged in any single movement, significantly amplifying the effectiveness of any movement performed on the plate. A body’s natural response to vibration and destabilization has been scientifically linked not only to lowered blood pressure, but also improved circulation, enhanced flexibility, pain reduction and balance. Research also shows whole body vibration stimulates the body’s natural production of the regenerative growth hormone that maintains tissue repair, muscle growth, energy and metabolism throughout life.
